Plastic crystals comprise a type of synthetic polymers-based glass designed into watches, possessing outstanding flexibility and resistance to impacts compared to other mineral or sapphire crystal types. Because these can bend without breaking, these plastics are highly prized for areas in which the watch will be handled roughly or faces extreme conditions. In addition, plastic crystals can easily be polished and buffed to eliminate minor scratches, and the watch remains clear and clean looking throughout its lifetime.
While they are not scratch-resistant like a sapphire crystal, plastic crystals provide a lightweight yet rugged substitute for situations in which not much scratch resistance is required-like sports watches, children's watches, or wherever optimum resistance is critical.
