A set of small gears in a timepiece converts energy from the mainspring to the escapement at the proper quantity and time. Each pair of gears in the train reduces, and controls flow so that the watch shows a precise time. Incrementations are done with caution so that the energy gets to the escapement and produces a consistent and smooth tick, which in turn is caused by the precision of the gear train. It is a tiny engineering marvel where each gear is done with utmost care to produce the watch as one completely accurate and functional timepiece.
