Bezel

The bezel is the ring that holds the watch's face and keeps the crystal in position. It is a combination of both form and function, sometimes even being beautiful while performing other functions. A rotating bezel is supposed to track elapsed time underwater in a dive watch or track a second time zone with a GMT watch. Bezels vary by design, from simple fixed pieces to much more complicated rotatable or tachymeter-equipped versions.

Materials will add style and durability: steel, ceramic, and others. If not a minor, they are at least quite an essential part of any watch, not only in the aesthetic view but also in functionality.
